As Associate Pastor, Alice’s role involves a focus on three primary ministry areas – Outreach, Mission and Discipleship. Alice’s primary work is with community engagement and building up lay leadership in the parish and in the wider community.
Alice comes to ministry with a heart for the broken, the outsider, the seeker, and for those living in community as the Body of Christ. Alice is the first to admit that this casts a rather wide net.
Alice’s ministry experience includes preaching, teaching, youth ministry, homeless ministry, community development, and faith-based nonprofit business development. Her most recent ministry experiences have been with the Diocese of West Texas.
Alice comes from a dual-career background: first as an academic and researcher in Anthropology of Religion (MA), and later in business (MBA). She served as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Cape Verde, West Africa for two years and still speaks a bit of Creole.
Alice comes to us to love and serve within and without our Grace Church community. Her husband, the Rev. Philip May, is overjoyed at this opportunity for Alice and is completely supportive as they live and work a bit farther apart than they normally do. Alice has two step-children who are far too smart for their own good, two dogs who are too unruly to move to Canada, sometimes thinks she can play the ukulele and the flute, and likes to knit and roller skate in her free time… when she’s not writing science fiction.
